Vinicius Jr at Real Madrid · 25 October 2026

Vinicius starts, hits the keeper, subbed in a 4-1 win

Vinicius started Real Madrid's 4-1 Champions League win over RB Leipzig at the Bernabéu on Wednesday 21 October and was substituted around the 70th minute (sources give 69 or 70). He did not score or, in the reports I found, assist. His four-match LaLiga ban does not cover European games, which is why he could play.

The goals came from Bernardo Silva (44), Arda Güler (52), Kylian Mbappé (83) and Yan Diomande (87), with Tidiam Gomis scoring for Leipzig. Diomande came on for Vinicius.

Vinicius forced a save from Leipzig keeper Maarten Vandevoordt on 31 minutes and was later denied by another dive at a mid-range shot. Managing Madrid's ratings had him at 6.5: two very good attempts, but some poor giveaways.

The crowd whistled as he went off, according to the match coverage. Mourinho said the change was not that of an unhappy coach but of one with a deep bench, and he made several changes with the Clasico in mind.

Vinicius is suspended for the Clasico at Barcelona on Sunday 25 October. The ban also covers Racing Santander on 1 November and Valencia on 7 November.
