Google tests ads in AI Mode with Personal Intelligence

Google has confirmed it is testing ads in AI Mode for users who have switched on Personal Intelligence, the setting that connects apps such as Gmail and Google Photos. In March Google had said that experience would be ad-free. Search Engine Roundtable reported the change on 19 October, citing Google's statement to Search Engine Land.

Google's help page says ads will not be based directly on a user's Gmail inbox or Photos library, but that summaries and inferences drawn from connected apps may inform them. It also says it does not show personalised ads based on sensitive categories, and lists health among them.

For healthcare search accounts that last point matters most, and it is Google's wording rather than anything tested. Google calls this a test. Its length, which advertisers are included and whether it is controllable at campaign level have not been reported. Everything I found traces back to that one Google statement, so there is no independent check of how the test works.
