GPT-6.1 Terra: half the price, in ChatGPT Work and Codex
OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Terra on 26 October 2026, rolling it out gradually in ChatGPT Work and Codex and in the API. We missed it in earlier checks, so this is a late catch.
Who gets it
OpenAI says it is available to Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex. Coverage disagrees on Business: one outlet lists it, another does not mention it. Free and Go do not appear. It is not in regular ChatGPT Chat conversations, and if you cannot see it yet the rollout has probably not reached your account. I found nothing on UK availability.
What it does
Computer use is the stated focus: clicking through desktop apps and websites to finish multistep jobs inside ChatGPT Work. OpenAI also names visual reasoning, writing and coding. In Codex, codex -m gpt-6.1-terra selects it.
Price
The API identifier is gpt-6.1-terra, at $1 input and $5 output per million tokens. OpenAI says that is 50% lower than GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol.
The performance numbers are OpenAI's own. On its internal benchmark the error rate at low reasoning effort fell from 53.6% with GPT-5.6 Terra to 16.7%. No independent test has been seen yet.
